2. Precision

Precision refers to the consistency or repeatability of measurements or machining results. It describes how close multiple measurements or machined parts are to each other, regardless of whether they are close to the target value.

  • Example: If you machine five parts and their lengths are 99.98 mm, 99.97 mm, 99.99 mm, 99.98 mm, and 99.97 mm, the process is precise because the results are very consistent, even if they are slightly off from the target value of 100.00 mm.

  • Key Point: Precision is about getting the same result repeatedly, even if it’s not the exact target.
